The first thing you need to do is prepare a CALIBRATION PLOT for you
mercury lines.  I updated the example calibration plot on the class
website for this lab.  It is available at

You make ONLY ONE calibration plot because you only have absolute
emission data for one set of lines -- mercury.

Using the Mercury Calibration plot, determine the wavelength, in nm, for
you other lines species -- record these in column 4.

For the mercury spectrum and the sodium salt you are asked to come up
with the energy of the transition in kJ/mol.  The equation
$E=\frac{hc}{\lambda}$, where $\lambda$ is in meters, allows you to
convert the energies to Joules per photon.   To convert to kJ/mol,
multiply this number by Avogadro's number and divide by 1000.

Lab this week has four components:

1. Cover Page (nothing in box)

2. Filled out report form

3. Calibration Graph

4. Copies from your lab notebook.
