Sure -- here are the things I encouraged you to memorize/know so that
you could have a better chance of success on the test.
Table 1.2 -- SI Base Units
Table 1.3 -- expecially Kilo-, centi-, milli-, micro-, nano-, and pico-
Know how to convert inches to cm and vice versa -- and that the
conversion is "exact" with respect to sig figs.
Know the group names on the periodic table.
Table 2.2 (for ease in knowing these, compare them to the periodic
table in figure 2.13. I will provide you with a periodic table on the
exam, so if you know how the charges work for alkali metals, alkaline
earth metals, calcogens, and halogens then you already have a lot of
Table 2.2 "memorized"
Table 2.3 -- Polyatomic Ions -- probably the hardest to memorize (name,
formula, and charge!)
Table 2.4 -- Greek Prefixes
Table 2.7 - Alkane structures (if you know Table 2.4 this should be easy)
Table 2.8 - Organic Functional Groups (only 4)
The test is not over just these things -- but these item form the basic
language that we need in order to address chemical problems.
Keep the questions coming!
