Good morning - you are receiving this e-mail because you are signed up
to take CHM 111 with me during the first session of summer school.

I am still making the final changes to the syllabus and will hopefully
have everything posted for you by Saturday -- but there is one major
change that happened yesterday about which I need to alert the class and
ask for some feedback.

The Provost has cleared us to return to normal lab protocols during
summer session.  That is great because it means in CHM 111 you can have
a lab partner.   The Provost has also cleared those that have been
vaccinated against COVID-19 to go maskless and not worry about social
distancing.

Where this gets interesting is for those that have not been vaccinated
-- you are, under the honor system, required to still wear a mask and
social distance.  That presents a problem if we have partners in lab.
Trust me, I have absolutely no issue with people that have chosen not to
be vaccinated.  There are legitimate reasons for this and I respect
those.   I must, however, still follow the University rules.

Those that are not vaccinated against COVID-19 will have to work without
partners this summer.  Since some people prefer to work alone, I will
extend the opportunity to work alone to anyone that wishes to do so.
With this recent turn of events I am working closely with the chemistry
stockroom to make sure we have enough lab bench space to accommodate
everyone.

If you have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 or if you prefer to
work alone, please respond to this e-mail as soon as possible and let me
know so we can plan accordingly.  You do not have to tell me that you
have/have not been vaccinated.  Just tell me that you need/prefer to
work alone.
