Class, I have received several e-mails tonight
from people not asking for help -- but asking for extensions on
Sapling. When I opened Sapling I saw that roughly one third of
the class has completed the work for both Chapter 3 and Chapter
4 with grades of 100. Only a small number of you have attempted
the Learning Curve exercises.

Here is my my problem, due to the weighting of
Sapling, and the fact that it is due tonight, roughly two thirds
of the class could find themselves in not only with bad grades
in Sapling, but bad grades in the course at midterm because they
were ill prepared for the upcoming test. I rarely deviate from
my schedule because I have to get through all of the material to
prepare you for CHM 112. However, this situation has me very
concerned because the information in chapter 3 and 4 carry
through the rest of Chemistry. It really is that important.

For this ONE TIME - I am going to EXTEND the
DUE DATE for Sapling to SATURDAY NIGHT and move Friday's exam to
MONDAY. That gives you EXTRA TIME to make sure you know what is
going on in Chapters 3 and 4 and seek out help from the SI, the
Academic Resource Center, your friends, and me.

For those that have been working daily
progressing through the material -- you have my thanks; your
hard work will pay off. For those that haven't even started
Sapling, look at this as a reprieve and bullet that you dodged.

In class on Friday I will push on with Chapter
5.
