Good soggy morning class...

I got a question last night about the lab you will be turning in
tomorrow and I want to clarify a couple of things so that you will do
the calculations correctly.

The lab asks you to report the average mg CaCO3 per tablet. You do this
through your analysis of the moles of NaOH used and the initial amount
of HCl -- not based on the mass of the tablet. Report the average and
deviation on the report form.

Since the tablets can weigh different amounts, I also want you to
calculate the mg of CaCO3 per gram of tablet (basically divide the mg of
CaCO3 per tablet by the mass of the tablet. This will tell you
something about the purity of the tablet -- and requires you to use the
mass of the tablet. This is essentially the pre-lab problem that you did.

Now, in the BIG BOX on the GENERALIZED LAB REPORT FORM cover page I want
two things
recorded:

1. The average and deviation for the mg CaCO3 per tablet, and
2. The average and deviation for the mg CaCO3 per gram of tablet.

Please record your results as

average ± deviation

So your complete lab report will be comprised of:

1. Generalized Laboratory Report Form Cover Page
2. Filled out report form
3. Copies from Lab Notebook.

with a nice STAPLE in the upper left hand corner!
