Good afternoon class,

I added everyone's Mercer e-mail address to the class listserve for CHM
112 this morning. If you would like to add another e-mail address to
the class listserve, then please go to the following website...

http://theochem.mercer.edu/mailman/listinfo/chm112

and enter the requested information. Please remember to click the
SUBSCRIBE button! If you are unsure if your e-mail address was properly
subscribed, try adding it a second time (the system will then tell you
if your first attempt was successful.)

A bit about etiquette: If you have questions related to problems or the
class, then send them to my e-mail address (pounds_aj at mercer.edu). If
you want to send a question to the ENTIRE class, then send it to
chm112 at theochem.mercer.edu. All items that flow to the listserve are
moderated by me.

Regarding the additional problems. I already got a question about how
to do number three on the additional problems that I handed out in class
yesterday. In this problem I gave you the value of the reaction
enthalpy and asked you to predict whether or not the reaction was
spontaneous. To do this you have to qualitatively predict the sign of
Delta S (see pages 784-785 of your text). Based on the signs of Delta H
and Delta S you can predict the sign of Delta G - and thus the
spontaneity of the reaction. Only in some cases do you need more
information.

I have posted the solution to all but one of the additional problems on
the class website...

http://theochem.mercer.edu/chm112

in the solutions section. The password to access the additional
problems is "GoBears". It is case sensitive and you have to have
javascript enabled on your browser. Please let me know if you have any
problems accessing the solutions.

See you in class tomorrow morning!
