Students -- it is going to be up to you to prepare for lab this week by
writing your own step-by-step lab procedures. As I mentioned in class,
the procedure for making the known standards will be very much like the
procedure you used to make the standards in the Nickel (II) lab from CHM
111. In that lab you were tasked to use a combination of volumetric
flasks and pipettes to make the standards. I HIGHLY recommend that you
look back at your old lab notes and/or the lab procedures for the Ni 2+
lab to help you get ready for lab.
While you may still have access to the old lab from last semester via
BlackBoard, I wanted to make sure everyone had easy access to it. You
will therefore find a copy of the old lab procedures attached to this
e-mail.
Early preparation for this lab will make it go very smoothly (and
possibly quickly). By looking at the current lab instructions and
filling in what you need from the old instructions the task of preparing
for lab will not be as difficult as it might seem. The lab assistant
(Ann) will be looking at your lab notebooks prior to you starting the
lab. Students that do not have a clear procedure in their notebooks
will be asked to leave the lab. I will also be collecting the lab
notebook "carbon copy sheets" (not the originals) at the end of lab on
Tuesday.
