Wow -- Quiz 3 was rough for many of you. The
solution is posted on the class webpage and follows the method
of solution outlined in the class slides starting on page 128.

I was inclined to just throw out these quizzes
and have a "do over", but there were a few folks who made
perfect scores so I don't want to penalize them. Look for a
similar type of quiz on Friday of this week - remember I only
keep your best scores. You can generally expect at least one
quiz a week from now on.

PLEASE don't put off studying for kinetics.
It can be a hard topic and contains many new ideas. However,
the foundation we are putting in place in chapters 14, 15, and
18 is critical to your success in the second half of the
semester. On the class website I have updated the suggested
Burdge problems to include problems from chapters 14, 15, and
18. The Aktiv problems for 14 have been open for a few days.
Please start making some headway on these problems and let me
know where you get stuck so I have time to help BEFORE the next
test.

Finally -- some of you have expressed great
concern over the class slides I presented today because they
contained a tiny bit of calculus. Calculus is not a
pre-requisite for the course and I do not expect you to
integrate any equations. I wanted you to understand the process
of coming up with an integrated rate law - that is all. I do,
however, expect you to be able to use the properties of
logarithms in solving algebraic equations.
