<font face="serif">Students -- hopefully you are catching a little break
this weekend after the crazy week most of you just completed. Week
two is about to start so I wanted to give you a little "heads-up"
of what is coming your way.<br>
<br>
Tomorrow in class I will be making the bridge to chapter 2 of the
text. Chapter 2 mainly focuses on stoichiometry; it is a topic
that is familiar to most of you. My thought is that we will spend
this week on it and then move on to bonding theory next week.<br>
Some of you asked me what you should be doing outside of class.
On the class web page (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://theochem.mercer.edu/chm115">http://theochem.mercer.edu/chm115</a>) you will
see a list of problems you should be attempting. The list starts
in the appendices (basically reviewing scientific notation,
experimental error, and relevant concepts from both physics and
mathematics). The solutions for the problems I had assigned from
the appendices are found in the book.<br>
<br>
I also have listed three problems from chapter one. I am under
the impression that you have already read chapter one of the text
and have a reasonably good grasp of the structure of the atom
(i.e. -- protons, neutrons, and electrons). You can access my
hand worked solutions to these problems on the class web page.
Michael (your SI) may do the problems slightly differently than I
do. I have no problem with that -- there are MANY ways to solve
some of these problems.<br>
<br>
Finally -- I rarely tell you about upcoming quizzes -- but plan
for one on Wednesday related to the material in chapter one.<br>
<br>
That is all -- see you at 9:00 am!<br>
