I'm sending this e-mail to the class not to tell everyone to withdraw
from the class -- but rather to encourage you to think very carefully
before withdarding from this class. Many, if not all, of you were
placed in this class by an engineering advisor that knew you needed
Chemistry credit and this class was your best chance to get that done
expeditiously. Based on how some people felt about yesterday's test they
went ahead and withdrew from the course. That shocked me.
My grading system is designed to bolster your overall average in the
class. Even if you do poorly on multiple exams and quizzes, you can
generally still pass the class.
Because this is a special topics chemistry class for engineers that may
never be offered again, I have a good bit of leeway in how I structure
both the course content and delivery of the material. We will discuss
on Friday how the class will move forward.
My goal is that you all complete this class -- and along the way I hope
you learn some chemistry.
