Okay -- this e-mail will hopefully answer a bunch of questions sent to
me.

This weekend you should be attempting to install the JDK and
Eclipse on you home computers and/or laptops. For those that are
having difficulty getting these things installed on their laptop, I
will try to arrange a time to meet with you on Monday or Tuesday to get
it installed.

You need have a flash drive and be able to use it with Eclipse.
You will DEFINITELY need a flash drive by next lab period because we
will be installing additional libraries you will need for class and lab.

To help you establish familiarity with Eclipse and Java, I asked
that you complete programming exercises 1.3 and 1.8. I will not be
taking these up or checking them -- but I want you to try and complete
them and let me know what problems you have.

Read chapter 1 and, as you read through it, complete the self
check exercises. There are answers at the end of the chapter -- so you
can verify if you know the material. Pay close attention to the
different types of errors you can encounter while programming. There
are really four types of errors you will see:

Lexical Errors

Syntax Errors

Runtime Errors

Logic Errors

See if you can define each of these.

Read the info on page 616 of your text related to variables and
constants. We will start talking about this on Wednesday of next week.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ANYTHING.
