I know some of you are eager to get started using Julia for your
project. The version of julia in the system libraries on cobra is
old (I think it is was released last December -- and that is old
in the Julia release cycle ). Julia is being actively maintained
and updated and the developers encourage users to use the most
recent version because it is the most stable (and presumably
fastest). I wanted to make sure I got the newest (and presumably
fastest) version running for you on cobra before you started using
it. I was able to get that done on Saturday.

If you set things up properly, you will find Julia to also be
fast and easy for array work. The developers hope it replaces
Fortran as the de-factor number crunching language.

Anyway, the assignment for tomorrow will open a day early so you
can go ahead and get started. It will show you how to use the
newest julia release (1.8.2), give you an example of how to code
the multidimensional arrays in julia, and ask you some critical
questions you need to think about before you implement julia in
your project.
