Guys, before you really dive into lighting you might want to take a quick look at the OpenGL manual that is on the class webpage in the reference section.  Chapter 5 is on lighting and tells you what the default values are for everything.   You should also note that the defaults for LIGHT0 are different than the defaults for the other lights. That's a rookie error that I made my first time through lighting.
