<font face="serif">Gentlemen -- your CSC 335 textbook is pretty
"silent" on the concept of matrix balancing. There are several
references online that talk about the direct balancing of a matrix
(implemented in LAPACK as xGEBAL) -- but I thought some of you
might want to try something a little different. Ultimately it's
your call, but here is an <a
href="http://web.eecs.utk.edu/%7Edongarra/etemplates/node207.html">algorithm</a>
that you can try which uses a Krylov Balancing.<br>
