Guys -- I have noticed that maui or torque can go offline if it
gets a script with strings that are too long or has odd characters
in the file. When this happens the jobs will most likely be
sitting in the queues in the "Q" state - waiting for Maui to
schedule them.

This problem manifests itself when you type the "showq" command
and get the following error...

henry:~ % showq
ERROR: cannot send request to server henry.mercer.edu:42559
(server may not be running)
ERROR: cannot request service (status)

or qstat doesn't produce any output.

In truth, this could be either Maui or Torque -- but it will take
someone with my authorization and skills to fix it. If you run
into problems (like Tyler did this weekend) please send me an
e-mail ASAP and I will try to fix it.
