[MU Chem Linux Users] Dock Etiquette and a new Protocol

Good morning Chemistry Linux (Dock) users:

We have several new users on Dock this semester and I anticipate this
trend growing as we move into the new building.  I didn't get a chance
to brief all the new users on the "rules" of etiquette on Dock -- the
main one being that if you are not actively doing a calculation or
working on something, then please LOG OFF and close out your graphical
session.  When you log into the console and leave you effectively lock
others out from using dock.      I came in this morning and found a
terminal session that was two days old. That meant any chemistry
research students or faculty members who needed to use the system on
Friday were locked out.

Don't interpret this as "don't use the machine" -- it is a great
resource for us and has some, although dated, great graphics and
computing abilities.  I want us to use it to its fullest potential.
With so many people now depending on it for research, however, we all
must be a little more diligent about playing nice.  Here are some
guidelines we need to follow.

1. Jobs running longer than a few hours really should be run via the
batch queues -- which I will gladly show you how to use.

2. If you are not using the system actively, or are leaving for class,
please LOG OFF

3. If you come in and find the system locked and you need to use it,
contact me (preferably via text msg) so I can check to see if the system
is truly idle before killing off wayward  running jobs/processes and
rebooting the system.

That is all...
