They are not required, but you are welcome to the use the glm libraries
(although they are not yet installed on the Godsey systems). These
libraries are used frequently in modern GL programs, but you must
recognize that when you adopt their use that you are locking yourself
into the glm C++ templating consructs and that you are also going to
have to revert to using all of the glm data structures for holding,
accessing, and manipulating your data.
So yes -- go nuts.
