Yes -- you can certainly use Mathematica.  That is why I had the 
University purchase 17 licenses (about the size of a P-chem class).

Be warned, however, that Mathematica won't do everything.  As we get 
deeper into quantum mechanics you will learn that you have to sometimes 
have to give Mathematica small pieces to answer.  I will say this again 
and again, you are smarter than the computer.  Think of it as a tool.  
Like a hammer it is great at driving nails -- used improperly you are 
going to mess up your thumb.
